Feast True Love in and out of the Kitchen eBook Hannah Howard

A beautifully written and honest account of Hannah’s extraordinary and inspiring story following her journey working in the food and restaurant industry whilst battling a crippling eating disorder.

Rather topically, it also highlights the sad issues currently being brought to light regarding abuse (both sexual and general) towards women in that (and other) industries, and even sadder that Hannah shockingly was a victim of this in the worst possible way.

A super interesting read (especially if you have an interest in food) and a real page-turner- I literally couldn’t put it down!
An excellent, highly recommended book!

Feast True Love in and out of the Kitchen eBook Hannah Howard Reviews

I am pretty sure I was not the target audience for this book about food addiction/anorexia told by a young woman. I am a 65 y.o. male whose only food problem is a great appetite which I am able to control. That being said this author pulled me into her world and helped me to understand the issues from the inside out all the while letting me get to know her as a real person. I am filled with admiration for the courage with which she faces her demons. I just wanted to hold her face and look her in the eyes and say "you are perfect and beautiful just the way you are." You have to read the book to see how that works out! Thank you Hannah Howard.
Hannah shares the story of her life , and how painful it was feeling that because she thought her body was too big ( even when she'd dieted to. Anorexic skinnines) she always was never enough. She's a good writer with an interesting story. She loves food and created a career in the industry, while struggling with binging and starving. I can't imagine how hard it would be to love good food but have yourself on a strict diet while you are working in gourmet restaurants and groceries full of samples of delicious food.

Hannah feels like an outsider growing up, and works hard to get into Columbia and find friends, a career she loves, and true love. She makes a few bad choices, and struggles with self loathing and shame about her body. Ultimately she comes to grips with her disease and talks about getting into recovery. She is also able to give up relationships with men that are too angry or crazy or addicted or married to be her partners in the life she's trying to create. Her story is well told and relatable.
I have the distinct pleasure of knowing the author Hannah personally for a number of years and experienced part of her story as well (Fairway Markets SHOUT OUT). Hannah has always been a great writer and a wonderful person, and her book is a wonderful reflection of her. It's a page turner, I finished it in a weekend. Read it and be ready to hear more about the author, because she's going places, big time
I didn’t expect to like this book as much as I did from reading the description and prior reviews, but I enjoyed every minute. I’m not a “foodie” but this book kind of made me want to be one. I empathized with the main character. Although I haven’t struggled with an eating disorder, I, like many (most?) women have struggled with body issues so could empathize with much of her pain. And most of all, having dealt with co-dependence all of my life, I picked up some incredible pearls of wisdom from this book, greater than any that I have gathered previously. And I’ve read ALOT of books on the subject. Maybe it was just the right time for me. Or maybe this is a great book.
It would be simple and true to say that FEAST was delicious, that I devoured it in one sitting. Howard's writing about food is a sensual pleasure, and her stories about coming of age in New York and the maniacal pace of restaurant life are vivid and engrossing. But particular to this book, in this moment, is the way that Howard represents the treatment of women in the restaurant world. Simmering under the surface of this memoir about food, eating disorders, and love is Howard's candid portrayal of sexual harassment, rape, and the inequalities women face in the restaurant industry as a matter of course—and the very real effects of this treatment on women's psyche. This book is a pageturner, an absolute delight—and an important contribution to the #metoo movement.
I held off choosing Feast True Love in and out of the Kitchen by Hannah Howard as my free first book due to longtime ongoing personal reasons fighting with my own weight, a dislike of my own body, and mainly a fear that I would want to eat if I read great descriptions of food. Fortunately the other choices of the month didn't appeal to me and it was Feast or no feast at all.

I was stunned by the beauty of this memoir. The author's descriptions of her battles with anorexia, bulimia, and boyfriends ring vibrantly true. This book is poetic and completely worth reading, especially if you are female and have spent your life looking at models in beauty mags who have insanely perfect bodies, and wondering why you can't be like them.

Intense and gorgeous in its descriptions of olive oil, mushroom risotto, and various cheeses, Feast chronicles Hannah's life as a cook beginning with her teenage years. Always an overachiever, she never settles for second best education-wise or work-wise. However, in her own eyes, not for a moment is she beautiful, no matter how many men tell her she is.

Such is the heartbreak of the broken mirror through which a person with an eating disorder sees herself.
I am glad she is recovering.
This book is valuable and totally worth reading. I loved it.
