This book is great if you use Harvard style referencing. I'd skip it if you use APA or something else, as a majority of the text is for Harvard style. It spells everything out so easily! Found a website to cite? It tells you how. Found a verse in the Bible? Yes, it tells you how to cite it. Found a conference paper from 1992? Yep, it tells you how. If you want to know how to cite basically ANY resource, this book will tell you how. It has an index that quickly gets you to the right page and then tells you both how to reference in text and in your references section. What else is there to say? I'd bet it's saved me hours if you were to add all the time up.

overall really good book exactly the break down I needed to help me with my classes.
it's worth checking it out.
Not as extensive as I would have liked.
Great for students who are using the Harvard referencing style for the book has 62 pages of information on it. However, for those whose university requires you to use APA or MLA referencing style, you're in for great disappointment. I surely was for the book covers four to five pages of basic information relating to each of the styles.
This is a really useful book to own if you are in University in the UK using Harvard referencing. Easy to use.
This has been a life-saver for me in my first weeks of my online Master's programme. Really up to date - I was impressed to see that they include how to reference YouTube videos and Facebook. The only one that's missing is how to reference a book!
Worth it for anyone who has to write academic papers using the Harvard method of referencing.
Warning cannot be used in a U.S. context because the book uses British conventions of spelling and punctuation throughout without giving American variants.

Even on it's own terms it's not so great. Here's one example it never tells you how to cite a magazine article you accessed online. It's filled (er, not filled) with serious omissions of this sort.
I think that this book may be difficult for those new to referencing and citing, but then again all books will be a challenge if you are new to this. I have many books on this area and instruct a course in research and academic writing. This book is the way to go, not just for beginners, for many entering this area (or revisiting it after some time off).

Not only does it address the Harvard Approach, but it looks at (if briefly) APA, MLA, MHRA, OSCOLA, and Vancouver Referencing Style. Once you get the basics, as in the Harvard Approach, the others really just need fine tweaking; thus, I feel for the target audience of the book its fine.

If you are ordering this book, why not tuck a couple others in your cart, like MLA, APA, and if you are a very analytical person whom likes these genres of thought, the Chicago Manual of Style. Let's face it, if you are new to this - different sources may just be what you need to really get it as we all have different styles of learning. BUT - I could easily recommend this as your single "first" guide to referencing.

Well done
